Anna’s Army Day in Hillsboro, Ohio

Anna’s Army, Inc. is a team of volunteers, family members and friends working together to raise awareness and funds to find a cure for Cystic Fibrosis. For the past five years, on the third Friday in April, hundreds gather on the Courthouse lawn in Hillsboro, Ohio to carry on the legacy of Anna Reno, the inspiration for Anna’s Army.

Anna lived her life with Cystic Fibrosis, knowing the “roller coaster of good and bad” as she fought the disease. She lived to see her day proclaimed in Hillsboro, Ohio knowing she was inspiring everyone to work toward the same goal together. Sadly the world lost Anna shortly after, when she was just 8 years old.

Executive directors of Anna’s Army, Andi and Justin Reno, tell us Anna’s Army Day is the biggest fundraising event of the year, with funds raised going to the Boomer Esiason Foundation for Cystic Fibrosis. Andi tells us they typically raise between $11,000 and $20,000 and this year, despite the rain and cold, they raised approximately $10,000 for the cause. To date, the organization has donated more than $100,000 towards research to find a cure for cystic fibrosis.

The day consists of games for children, Anna’s Army gear sales, lunch, a balloon launch and a walk that usually draws more than 300 participants. This year it also included our NASCAR race car and hauler. Director Justin Reno says most of the funds raised come in the way of donations and sales of Anna’s Army gear. Justin is pictured here next to some of the best selling Anna’s Army gear in the tent.

Directors Justin and Andi both are passionately committed to the cause. They are Anna’s parents.

We are enormously proud to have participated in this special day. Drivers Rick and Sherryl Hackworth were honored to be there and to add our NASCAR race car and hauler to the day’s events. And despite the rain and cold, our hearts are still warm knowing we were among such special people.
